Hi Flag!

Well, it depends in which country you are doing you studies.

The university (in Switzerland it would be the "Fachhochschule Winthertur") has the advantage to be a good preparation for all kind of jobs in relation to aviation. But, to become an ATCO, at the end of this school you would anyway have to join a 3 years course at skyguide from the beginning on with the only advantage to be dispensed from certain theory lessons.

One big disadvantage of the skyguide ATCO course is the small success quote (around 50%), some of the trainees do not like the job and decide not to continue, others can not deal with the steady pressure of an ATC environment.
On the other side, during the 36 months you would have a little pay (around 2500.- the first year up to 5500.- the 3rd).

Anyway, in Switzerland, I think it is better to integrate a 36 months course like I did, if you are sure about your choice to be a future ATCO.

Greetings

Hi Daniela, Thanks for doing this interview. Would you recommend going to a four-year university or taking a more hands-on 36 month course like you? Are there any draw backs or advantages of either course?
